Hinds QB Jaylon Ruffin Named NJCAA Player of the Week

RAYMOND, Miss. — Hinds Community College quarterback Jaylon Ruffin was named the NJCAA Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to a 52-28 victory over East Central Community College on Thursday night at Gene Murphy Field at Joe Renfroe Stadium, according to school officials.

The recognition follows Ruffin’s back-to-back awards, having previously been named the MACCC Offensive Player of the Week. The sophomore completed 27 of 33 passes for 303 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, he rushed nine times for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

Ruffin’s six total touchdowns and 385 all-purpose yards helped the Eagles improve to 2-0 in South Division play. His performance contributed to the team’s second straight win.

Hinds is set to continue its momentum on Thursday, Oct. 1, when it visits Mississippi Delta Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
