Mississippi State Women’s Golf in Fifth Place Entering Final Round of Chapel Hill Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Mississippi State women’s golf is in fifth place after two rounds of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, sitting five strokes above the projected cutoff for the NCAA Championship, according to the leaderboard.

The Bulldogs shot a combined 9-over par through the first two days. Junior Avery Weed led the team with a pair of even-par rounds, including four birdies in the second round. She is tied for eighth place at 1-under par and is one of 11 golfers under par in the event.

Sophomore Samantha Whateley also posted back-to-back even-par rounds, placing her in a tie for 12th at even par. Her consistent play keeps her just outside the top 10. Mississippi State trails sixth-place Virginia by five strokes. Kent State and Michigan State are tied for seventh at 18-over par, nine strokes behind the Bulldogs.

The team will play its final round Wednesday morning, starting at 7 a.m. Central Time on hole 10. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com.

The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship later this month. Texas leads the regional at 10-under par, followed by North Carolina at 6-under. Mississippi State is currently five strokes behind Virginia, in sixth place.

Mississippi State’s other players include Ines Belchior, Moa Stridh and Izzy Pellot, who are also competing at the regional. The Bulldogs will look to improve their position in the final round to qualify for nationals, scheduled later this month.
