East Texas Baptist beats Belhaven 3-1 in men’s soccer
Jackson, Miss. — East Texas Baptist defeated Belhaven 3-1 in men’s soccer Saturday at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. Adrian Sanchez scored for the Blazers in the 64th minute, but ETBU responded just 77 seconds later to secure the win, according to the school.
ETBU opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Andrew Bradford scored off an assist from Brenden Davidson. Jacob Wenzel added a second goal for the Tigers with 3:11 remaining in the first half, giving ETBU a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Belhaven increased its offensive pressure after halftime and outshot ETBU 9-8 in the second half. Sanchez entered the game in the 63rd minute and immediately made an impact, scoring at 64:00 to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, James Mastrangelo restored ETBU’s two-goal lead with an unassisted goal at 65:17.
The Blazers continued to press, with multiple players, including Wyatt Dupre and Sanchez, taking shots in the final 21 minutes. Dupre forced a save in the 77th minute before Belhaven earned its fifth corner kick of the match. Despite their efforts, the team was unable to find the equalizer. Belhaven finished with 14 shots, nine in the second half, while ETBU had 16 overall.
Justin Ramirez made three saves for Belhaven in goal. The team returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Tougaloo at Belhaven Bowl Stadium at 7 p.m., according to the school.
