Avery Weed Selected for 2026 Arnold Palmer Cup
Avery Weed will become the first golfer from Mississippi State to represent Team USA in the Arnold Palmer Cup, the university announced Tuesday. Her selection was made public on Golf Channel.
The 2026 tournament is scheduled for July 3-5 at Tralee Golf Links in West Barrow, Ireland. The Ryder Cup-style event features the top male and female college golfers competing as teams of 12 men and 12 women. It is the only major tournament where men and women compete on the same team, according to the event’s organizers.
This will be Weed’s first appearance in the Arnold Palmer Cup. She is the first Bulldog to participate since Julia Lopez Ramirez, who played for Team International in 2024, her third consecutive season in the event.
During her three seasons at Mississippi State, Weed has established herself as one of the program’s top golfers. She has played 88 rounds with a scoring average of 71.67, the second-best in school history. Weed also has 50 rounds at par or better, the fourth-most in program history. Her 21 rounds in the 60s rank third all-time at Mississippi State.
Before competing in the Arnold Palmer Cup this summer, Weed and the Bulldogs aim to extend their postseason run. The team begins the NCAA Tournament on May 11 at Chapel Hill Regional and hopes to advance to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California, starting May 22.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the Golf Coaches Association of America in 1997. The competition has been hosted at some of the world’s most renowned golf courses, including St. Andrews, Royal County Down, and Baltusrol. Since 2018, the event has been unique in featuring men and women playing side-by-side as teammates.
Over the years, more than 250 alumni have earned PGA, LPGA, or DP World Tour cards. Forty-six players have represented Europe or the U.S. in Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, or Solheim Cup matches. The U.S. leads the series 15-13-1.
Beyond showcasing golf talent, the Palmer Cup emphasizes character and philanthropy, reflecting Arnold Palmer’s legacy. The Arnold & Winnie Palmer Foundation continues Palmer’s philanthropic work, promoting youth development and amateur golf through the event and related initiatives.
