Delta State Men’s Soccer Hosts Sunshine Conference Teams During Pig Pickin’ Weekend

The Delta State University men’s soccer team opens its home schedule this weekend during Pig Pickin’ Weekend with two matches against Sunshine State Conference opponents. The Statesmen host Florida Southern College at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Delta Field and face Eckerd College at 11 a.m. Sunday. Both games will be streamed live on the FloSports digital network.

Delta State enters the weekend with a 1-1-1 record. The team recently played to a 0-0 draw against Ouachita Baptist on the road. Senior goalkeeper Daniel Santema has a 1-0-1 record, with six saves on six shots faced over 180 minutes. The team has allowed only two goals in three matches, showcasing a strong defensive start. Tazjean Bird leads the team in scoring, netting the game-winning goal last week against Harding.

Florida Southern holds a perfect 2-0-0 record, defeating Barton 4-0 and Middle Georgia State 3-0. Three players — Tim Baierlein, Darcy Moffat, and Hector Oliver — each have two goals this season. Ricardo Marques has kept two clean sheets in goal, with seven saves in 180 minutes of play.

Eckerd enters the weekend with a 1-1-0 record. The Tritons split their recent matches, winning 3-2 against Middle Georgia State and losing 1-0 to Barton. Freshman defender Tatum Faim scored three points in the victory over Middle Georgia State. In goal, junior Trent Murphy has a 1-1 record with nine saves in 180 minutes.
