Santema earns second shutout as Delta State ties Ouachita Baptist 0-0

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Delta State University’s men’s soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday at Kluck Field. The Statesmen (1-1-1) outshot the Tigers 12-10 and held a 10-6 edge in corner kicks but could not find the back of the net.

The match featured a quiet first half with limited scoring opportunities for either side. Delta State increased its offensive pressure in the second half, firing 10 shots. Ajay Stewart led the team with four attempts, while Ricky Chagala added two shots, including two on goal. Ouachita Baptist’s goalkeeper Isaac Murie made four saves, denying several chances from the Statesmen, including late efforts from Romario Castro and Stewart.

Delta State goalkeeper Daniel Santema recorded two saves in his 90 minutes, earning his second clean sheet of the season. Defensively, the Statesmen were organized, limiting the Tigers to just two shots on goal. The back line, featuring Micah Soper, Ivan Gomez, and Cole Fenton, played a key role in maintaining the shutout.

The match was physical, with 25 fouls and multiple cautions issued between the teams. Delta State will look to build on this result as it continues its early-season schedule.
