CONWAY, Ark. — The Delta State men’s soccer team lost its road game Saturday evening, falling 2-0 to Central Baptist College at Centennial Soccer Park in West Conway.
The Statesmen’s attack improved throughout the match, producing seven shots and four on goal. Junior Villalba-Martinez forced a save in the 14th minute, while Ajay Stewart and Danny Vargas each attempted shots on target in the second half. Mills Sheridan added two shots, including a header in the 83rd minute that sailed high.
The Mustangs scored twice in the opening 18 minutes. Archie Woodall opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 12th minute. Zeke Smith doubled the advantage six minutes later, finishing a pass from Jack McNamara at 18:05. Delta State goalkeeper Aidan Hayes played all 90 minutes and made three saves, including stops in the 19th, 54th, and 61st minutes, but the early deficit stood.
The Statesmen controlled much of the second-half possession, earning nine corner kicks after halftime and 13 overall. Despite this, CBC goalkeeper Maxwell Kruit made four saves to earn a shutout.
Delta State was issued two yellow cards in the closing stages. Joshua Diaz received a card at 79:46, followed by Francisco Carrasco at 90:00. With the loss, the team moves to 1–1–0 on the season.
The Statesmen return home next week to continue non-conference play, hosting Florida Southern College on Friday at 3:30 p.m. from Delta Field.
