Mississippi State Men’s Golf Finishes Sixth at Visit Knoxville Collegiate

Knoxville, Tenn. — Mississippi State men’s golf finished in a sixth-place tie at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate, held at Fox Den Country Club. The Bulldogs posted a team score of 834 over three rounds, with standout performances from freshman Yago Horno Mateo and transfer Arth Sinha.

Horno Mateo tied for fourth place in the 96-player field, finishing at 8-under par. He carded three rounds of par or better, including a 2-under 70 in the final round. The debut was the best by a State golfer since Drew Wilson finished third at the 2024 Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate, according to the university.

Sinha also impressed, ending the tournament tied for 13th at 3-under. He opened with back-to-back 70s before shooting an even-par 70 in the final round. Both players contributed to the Bulldogs’ strong performance, with Horno Mateo tying for fourth in par-5 scoring at 4-under.

Senior Bryson Hughes posted his best career round at State, a 68 that moved him up 14 spots to finish tied for 36th. Gavin Isbell played consistently, ending with a 1-under 70 in the third round and finishing tied for 52nd. The team also had contributions from Jackson Cook and Drew Wilson.

Mississippi State will return to competition September 13-15 at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational in Ontario. The Bulldogs’ next event will be in Foot’s Bay.
