Alcorn State Volleyball Opens Home Schedule Against Dillard and Nicholls

The Alcorn State volleyball team will open its home schedule Thursday and Friday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex in Lorman, Mississippi. The Braves face Dillard University on Thursday at noon and host Nicholls State University on Friday at 6 p.m., according to school officials.

Alcorn is not ranked in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I poll, nor is Dillard in the NAIA Top 25 or Nicholls in the Division I poll, the rankings show.

Key players for the Braves include Rylan Jones with 31 kills and 4 blocks, Courtney Carter with 25 kills and 17 digs, and Daylin Saiki with 69 assists. Last season, Dillard beat Alcorn 3-2 at home, and the Blue Devils feature senior Cadence Thomas, who has 25 kills and nine blocks, and junior Gabrielle Johnson, with 23 kills and 10 blocks.

Nicholls, which went 2-1 at last weekend’s LSU New Orleans Nicholls Challenge, last played Alcorn on Aug. 29, 2026, winning in five sets. The Colonels are led by setter Isabella Padilla, who was named SLC Setter of the Week after posting 97 assists in a recent match. Other notable players include Kera Arrington with 42 kills and Maya Schirmer with a .523 hitting percentage.

The Braves are 0-3 so far this season. Gabrielle Harris is in her second year as interim head coach. After these home matches, Alcorn will travel to Ruston, Louisiana, to face Louisiana Tech on Sept. 8.
