Paris Header Lifts William Carey Past LSU Alexandria in Soccer

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Paloma Paris scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute to lift William Carey University past LSU Alexandria in women’s soccer action Thursday night at Danny Owens Field.

The Lady Crusaders dominated possession in the first half, outshooting the Generals 8-3, but could not find the net. Despite several scoring chances, the match remained scoreless at halftime.

LSUA had its best opportunity early in the second half, but Alicia Garwood intercepted a dangerous cross to keep the game tied. William Carey then regained control and intensified its attack, which ultimately led to the decisive goal. Maddie Davis played a ball forward to Luana Falconeri, who passed to Avery Rogers. Rogers crossed into the box, where Paris headed the ball into the net.

The Lady Crusaders maintained their defensive pressure in the final minutes to secure the victory. William Carey will next play Sept. 6 against Lindsey Wilson College in Decatur, Alabama, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m., according to school officials.
