The William Carey Lady Crusaders defeated Brewton-Parker 8-0 Thursday at Danny Owens Field in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Carey opened the scoring just one minute into the match, with Kayla Martin delivering a pass to Mia Encinia, who scored to give the Lady Crusaders an early lead, according to school officials.
Carey doubled its lead in the eighth minute. Paloma Paris fired two shots, with one hitting the crossbar before Sara Aguirre scored on the rebound. The Lady Crusaders extended their advantage in the 16th minute when Raquel Diaz set up Linda Mustered for a goal, making it 3-0.
The hosts kept up the pressure in the first half. In the 29th minute, Raquel Batalla Royo intercepted a pass and fed Kayla Martin, who scored inside the post to push the lead to 4-0. Five minutes later, Martin’s pass was deflected, but Royo finished the chance, giving Carey a 5-0 halftime lead.
Carey dominated possession in the second half, outshooting Brewton-Parker 29-1 and placing 13 shots on target. Despite the offensive surge, the Lady Crusaders kept the Barons off the scoreboard until the 80th minute, when Paris scored again. Aguirre added her second goal shortly after, and Sabrina Ramos Camatta closed the scoring in the 85th minute to seal the 8-0 victory.
William Carey returns to action Saturday at home against Thomas University in Southern States Athletic Conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Danny Owens Field, according to the school.
