William Carey Women’s Soccer Dominates Wesleyan College 14-0
The William Carey University women’s soccer team routed Wesleyan College 14-0 Thursday at Danny Owens Field in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The top-ranked Lady Crusaders wasted little time establishing control, with Luana Falconeri scoring on a penalty kick in the fifth minute after being fouled inside the box.
Carey continued to pour on the offense. In the 21st minute, Falconeri assisted Linda Mustered, who scored from inside the box to make it 2-0. Two minutes later, Mustered scored again from the top of the penalty area, extending the lead to 3-0. An own goal in the 29th minute and Falconeri’s second goal in the 34th pushed the score to 5-0 at halftime.
The Lady Crusaders maintained their momentum after the break. Sabrina Ramos Camatta scored on a header from a corner kick in the 57th minute. Paloma Paris scored three goals in total, including her third in the 37th minute and her fourth in the second half. Paris’s fifth goal came in the 88th minute on a header from a cross by Maddie Davis.
Other contributors included Kayla Martin, who scored in the 65th minute, and Sophie Magee, who assisted Camatta on her goal. Carey’s offense was relentless, with the final score standing at 14-0. The team returns to action Saturday, hosting Abraham Baldwin State University in SSAC play at 11 a.m., weather permitting.
