William Carey Women’s Soccer Opens Season with 3-0 Win Over LSU Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. — William Carey University’s women’s soccer team opened the season with a 3-0 victory over LSU Shreveport on Thursday at The Swamp. The Lady Crusaders controlled play from the start, outshooting the Pilots 12-1 in the first half and holding a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Carey broke through in the 28th minute on an indirect free kick from four yards out by Livia Pertl. The goal gave the Lady Crusaders a 1-0 lead. The second half saw continued dominance by Carey, which doubled its lead in the 61st minute. Paola Alvarez sent a ball into the box, and Luana Falconeri tapped the loose ball into the net after the goalkeeper’s attempt to intercept failed.

Less than a minute later, Falconeri scored her second goal of the match on a penalty kick awarded after a handball in the box, extending Carey’s lead to 3-0. The Lady Crusaders maintained control throughout the second half, limiting LSU Shreveport to four shots while generating 14 of their own. The team finished with a 26-5 shot advantage.

William Carey returns to action Tuesday, Aug. 25, when it travels to West Palm Beach, Florida, to face Keiser University. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m., according to school officials.
