William Carey Men’s Soccer Draws LSU Alexandria 1-1
The William Carey men’s soccer team battled LSU Alexandria to a 1-1 draw Friday night at Danny Owens Field.
LSU Alexandria created the first scoring opportunity of the match with a quick give-and-go, resulting in a one-on-one chance. The Crusader defense responded quickly, forcing an errant cross to end the threat. The Generals followed with a free kick, but Carey defended well to keep the game scoreless.
The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute when Teddy Miranda scored with a low header off a short corner kick. The goal was scored inside the six-yard box, slipping just inside the post.
LSU Alexandria equalized six minutes later after earning a penalty kick following a handball in the box. The Generals converted the spot kick to tie the game at 1-1.
Both teams pressed for a winner in the final minutes but were unable to find the net, resulting in the draw. William Carey will next play Thursday, Sept. 10, against Brewton-Parker at 7:30 p.m. at Danny Owens Field.
