CLINTON, Miss. — The Delta State University women’s cross country team finished eighth at the Mississippi College Opener on Friday evening, opening its 2026 season. The Lady Statesmen scored 240 points in a competitive field that included NCAA Division II and NAIA programs.
The team was led by sophomore Caroline McAlpin, who finished 48th overall with a time of 22:59.1. Freshman Lindsey Hogue was close behind in 23:24.7. The scoring five also included Linnet Barrock (24:08.0), Mackenzie Mercer (24:50.3), and Kayla Lofton (25:07.9).
Delta State returns to competition Sept. 19 at Rhode College. The meet time has not yet been announced.
