William Carey Dominates Brewton-Parker in 12-0 Conference Opener
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — William Carey University scored 12 goals to defeat Brewton-Parker 12-0 Thursday night at Danny Owens Field. The Crusaders controlled the game from the opening whistle.
Carey struck early when Fernando Pirry beat the goalkeeper to a loose ball and crossed to Isaiah Harvey, who finished into an open net for the opening goal. In the 21st minute, Pedro Sao Tiago sent a pass to Daniel Mulero, who scored past the goalkeeper. Mulero added a second goal in the 31st minute with a header off a cross from Enzo Galli. Just one minute later, Gabriel Hernandez scored after a pass from Souleymane Balde, making it 4-0.
Carey extended its lead to five before halftime when Fabian Arroyo scored in the 34th minute, slipping behind the defense. Early in the second half, Josef Wilson intercepted a pass and played a ball to Hernandez, who scored to make it 6-0. Pirry reignited the offense in the 71st minute, dribbling past defenders and scoring his third goal of the match.
Three minutes later, Luka Brandic assisted George Steers, who tapped in the seventh goal. Brandic scored again in the 79th minute, and he added the final goal in the 85th minute. Pirry completed his hat trick in the 84th minute, sealing the 12-0 victory.
William Carey returns to action Saturday against Thomas University at Danny Owens Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m., according to the university.
