HATTIESBURG, Miss. — William Carey edged Thomas University 1-0 Saturday at Danny Owens Field.
The Crusaders dominated the first half, outshooting the Night Hawks 15-1. Despite numerous chances, Carey couldn’t find the net before halftime, with Thomas’s goalkeeper making four saves to keep the game scoreless.
The second half saw continued pressure from Carey, which finally paid off in the 54th minute. Luka Brandic delivered a ball into the box that Fernando Pirry headed into the net, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.
Carey pressed for an additional goal, but the Thomas goalkeeper kept the visitors off the board with several saves. Defensively, the Crusaders limited Thomas to two shots on target. Pablo Diez recorded the shutout, making two saves in the victory.
William Carey next plays Thursday against the University of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m., according to school officials.
