Mississippi State Women’s Golf Ends Season at NCAA Chapel Hill Regional
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Mississippi State’s women’s golf team concluded its season Wednesday after finishing seventh at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional. The Bulldogs finished 21-over par and did not advance to the NCAA Championship, which begins May 22 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, according to the NCAA.
Avery Weed led Mississippi State with a tied-for-fifth finish. She shot a 69 in the first round, a 70 in the second, and a 69 in the third, finishing two strokes under par for the tournament. Weed was one of nine players to finish under par, according to the leaderboard.
The regional marked the final collegiate appearance for senior Izzy Pellot of Orlando, Florida. Pellot made history as the first player in program history to tee off in four NCAA tournaments. Over her career, she played 122 rounds, the fourth-most in school history, and recorded 36 rounds at par or better, the sixth-most in program history.
Texas, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, NC State and Virginia advanced from the regional to the NCAA Championship. The Bulldogs finished with a team score of 21 over par, while Kent State and High Point also missed the cut, finishing at 21 and 39 over par, respectively.
Other notable Bulldogs included Ines Belchior, who finished tied for 43rd, and Samantha Whateley, who tied for 21st. Mississippi State’s final team score was 282 after the first round, 287 in the second, and 292 in the third, totaling 21 over par.
