Southern Miss Baseball Closes Regular Season with Home Series Against Georgia Southern
The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team hosts Georgia Southern in its final regular season home series this weekend at Pete Taylor Park. The series begins Thursday at 7 p.m., with games scheduled through Saturday.
Southern Miss, with a 37-14 record overall and 19-8 in Sun Belt Conference play, trails Coastal Carolina by one game for first place. Coastal Carolina concludes its season at Louisiana this weekend. The Golden Eagles have already secured at least second place in the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament in Montgomery.
Southern Miss is on a six-game winning streak and has won 17 consecutive regular-season games in May under coach Christian Ostrander. The team aims to reach 40 wins for the 10th straight season, a streak they can extend this weekend. They also seek their 20th conference victory, a milestone achieved in nine of the last 10 seasons.
Senior Day will be observed before Friday’s game, honoring eight players including Colby Allen, JW Armistead, Ben Higdon, Kyle Morrison, Matthew Russo, Kros Sivley, Caleb Stelly, and Joey Urban. Higdon and Russo have been recent offensive standouts, with Higdon batting .444 over the last 10 games and Russo hitting .400 in his last eight.
Pitchers Sivley and Allen, who have combined for 185 appearances, are among the program’s career leaders in appearances and wins. Allen also ranks fifth in career saves with 21. Since defeating College of Charleston 9-5 Tuesday, Georgia Southern enters the weekend at 16-37 and 7-20, having been eliminated from postseason contention. The teams last met in the 2024 Sun Belt Tournament final, where Southern Miss won 14-11. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 8-3 since 2007.
Following the series, Southern Miss will compete in the Sun Belt Tournament in Montgomery, with matchups announced later this weekend.
