Jackson State Players Earn SWAC Weekly Honors After Series Win

Jackson State claimed its third straight series victory this past weekend, earning two weekly awards from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), the conference announced Wednesday.

Pierre Cabral was named co-Hitter of the Week after hitting .400 in the series against Mississippi Valley State. The senior went 6-for-15 on the road, including a 3-for-5 performance in the series opener with a double, a home run, four RBIs, and two runs scored. He added another 3-for-5 effort in the series finale, driving in two more RBIs and scoring once, according to SWAC.

Derek Arrocha received the Pitcher of the Week honor after pitching a complete game in the series finale. The junior allowed one run on seven hits and struck out four batters, earning his sixth win of the season. It marked Arrocha’s first complete game of the year and the fourth for Jackson State.

Jackson State is set to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the final regular-season series starting Thursday at 3 p.m. The series will continue through Saturday. Jackson State faculty, staff, and students will be admitted free during the series, the university announced.
