Mississippi State Track and Field Qualifies Seven Athletes for NCAA Championships
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Mississippi State track and field added two more qualifiers for the NCAA outdoor championships after competing at the East First Round meet Saturday. The event was held at the University of Kentucky.
Head coach Chris Woods praised his athletes’ performances, saying, “The athletes did well throughout the weekend. We’re excited for those advancing to nationals in June. The job isn’t done, so we’re headed back to Starkville focused on productive training before heading to Oregon.”
The final day of the meet featured women’s events, where Nelly Jemeli and Manie Mevo secured NCAA berths. Jemeli finished her 3,000-meter steeplechase race in 10:04.72, earning an automatic spot in Eugene for the second straight year. Mevo’s jump of 13.22 meters in the triple jump placed her 10th overall, qualifying her for the championships for the first time.
Ife Adisa also made notable progress, improving her 800-meter time to 2:01.54 in the quarterfinals. The time set a personal best and moved her to No. 2 on MSU’s all-time list, though she narrowly missed qualifying for nationals by a few milliseconds.
Overall, Mississippi State will send seven men, three women, and two men’s relays to the NCAA Championships. The full list of qualifiers includes athletes in track, field, and relay events, with more information available on HailState.com and the team’s social media channels.
