Mississippi State Men Qualify 10 for NCAA Outdoor Championships in Lexington

Lexington, Ky. — The Mississippi State men’s track and field team secured 10 qualification spots for the NCAA Outdoor Championships following the final day of the East First Round, according to the school’s release.

Five field athletes, two track athletes, and two relay teams earned berths to the championships in Oregon, set for two weeks from now. Kevin Grubbs led the way, finishing 10th in the discus with a throw of 57.96 meters. This will be Grubbs’ first appearance at the national meet in TrackTown USA.

Khalil Antoine made an impressive debut at the East First Round, qualifying in both the high jump and triple jump. His third-round mark of 16.25 meters in the triple jump ranks as the second-farthest in program history. Antoine finished third in the triple jump and fourth in the high jump.

The Bulldogs also qualified their 4×100-meter relay team, which clocked a season-best 38.78 seconds, shaving half a second off their previous best. The team, composed of Nicholas Fakorede, Kibren Moore, Gabriel Scott, and Sherman Hawkins, secured fifth place and a spot in Eugene. Their time now stands as the fastest in program history.

In the middle-distance events, Harry Ross-Hughes and Sam Navarro each earned automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Championships. The men’s 4×400-meter relay team also advanced after finishing in 3:03.17, with Lee, Burton, Ross-Hughes, and Hawkins set to compete again in Oregon.

The women’s team will compete tomorrow, with six athletes and one relay team vying for berths to the outdoor championships. The meet is streamed on ESPN+ with live results available online.
