Ole Miss Women’s Track & Field Secures Two NCAA East Regional Berths
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Mississippi women’s track and field team finished the NCAA East First Round with two additional qualifiers for the national championships, according to a release from Ole Miss athletics Wednesday.
The Rebels secured their 10th NCAA bid in the 4×100-meter relay over the last 11 seasons. The relay team of Zion Lockette, Patchnalie Compere, Royanah Farmer and Alicia Burnett ran a time of 43.52 seconds, finishing third in their heat and earning an automatic qualifying spot for the NCAA Championships at Oregon.
Alicia Burnett, a First-Team All-American and the first SEC women’s 60-meter indoor champion in Ole Miss history, also qualified individually in the 100-meter dash. Burnett clocked a wind-legal personal record of 10.98 seconds and finished second in her heat, earning her ticket to Eugene. She is one of only two Rebel women to break the 11-second barrier with legal wind, joining Olympian McKenzie Long.
Compere attempted to qualify individually in the 200-meter dash but finished 19th in her quarterfinals with a time of 23.06 seconds. In the 5,000-meter run, seniors Loral Winn, Beth Arentz, and Sophie Baumann wrapped up their careers at the regional meet, finishing 24th, 28th, and 46th respectively.
Ole Miss will send a total of 10 athletes on six entries to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, set for June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The qualifiers include Burnett in the women’s 100 meters, Logan Kelley in pole vault, Arvesta Troupe in high jump, Jordan Urrutia in the 200 meters, and both 4×100-meter relays.
