Millsaps Softball Earns Six All-Conference Awards in SAA

The Millsaps College softball team garnered six Southern Athletic Association awards following the regular season, the league announced Tuesday. Sophomore Hailey Peterson was named to the All-First Team twice, as a pitcher and as a utility player.

Peterson led the conference with a 1.42 ERA and allowed only 10 earned runs in 49.1 innings. She also ranked third in opposing batting average at .223 and posted a 4-4 record. The pitcher struck out 25 batters, including eight looking, and surrendered seven earned runs in conference play, the second-best mark in league games, according to the league.

Other players earning honors included Brynn Arena, Kodi Jimmie, and Ava Palumbo. Arena was named to the All-Conference Second Team for the second consecutive year. She ranked sixth in walks with 19 and tied for fourth in stolen bases with 20, both team highs. Arena also batted .339 with a .444 on-base percentage and a .491 slugging percentage, tallying 38 hits, two home runs, and 19 RBIs.

Jimmie returned from injury to appear in 19 games, making 17 starts at first and third base. She finished with a .358 batting average, six RBIs, and 19 hits. Jimmie tied for first in league double plays with five in conference games.

Freshman pitcher Liza Gregg made the SAA All-Sportsmanship Team. Gregg started 37 games, batting .255 with 25 hits, 17 RBIs, and two home runs. She also ranked fifth in the league with two sacrifice flies and tied for sixth with three sacrifice bunts.

Also recognized was Ava Palumbo, who finished second in conference games with a .541 on-base percentage and posted a .310 batting average. The Metairie, Louisiana native was perfect in left field defensively and contributed eight runs and 11 RBIs.

The league’s awards highlight the team’s strong season as Millsaps prepares for the postseason. The team’s players continue to be recognized for their individual performances and contributions to the program, which is based in Jackson, Mississippi, and has a history dating back to 1890.
