Vasquez, Gregg Earn SAA Softball Weekly Honors for Millsaps

Canton, Georgia — Millsaps College softball players Allana Vasquez and Liza Gregg received Southern Athletic Association weekly honors, the league announced Monday. Vasquez was named the SAA Pitcher of the Week, while Gregg earned the SAA Athlete of the Week award.

Vasquez, a junior right-hander and designated player, helped Millsaps sweep a weekend series at Sewanee. She pitched a seven-inning shutout on Saturday, striking out seven batters and allowing only two hits with a 0.00 ERA. She also issued one walk.

Gregg, a freshman catcher and third baseman, had a strong week with wins at Sewanee and a near upset of No. 9 Belhaven in extra innings on Wednesday. She posted a .583 on-base percentage, .833 slugging percentage, and hit .500 (6-for-12). Her effort included eight RBIs, a home run, two runs, two doubles, a walk, and a sacrifice bunt.

This marks the fifth career SAA weekly honor for Vasquez, her fourth as a pitcher. Millsaps also has seen junior Ella Morgan Sears named SAA Athlete of the Week and sophomore Hailey Marange recognized as Pitcher of the Week earlier this season.

The team will return home to the Millsaps College Softball Complex for a series against Rhodes College on April 18-19.
