Huntingdon women’s soccer beats William Carey in rematch after lightning delay

Montgomery, Ala. – A lightning delay interrupted Sunday’s rematch between Huntingdon and William Carey, but the Hawks still secured a 4-0 victory over the Owls. The match was halted in the 64th minute after Huntingdon built a 4-0 lead, prompting a delay of two hours and 24 minutes.

The Hawks (2-1-0) scored all their goals in the first half, while the Owls (0-2-0) managed to hold the hosts scoreless after the interruption. Play resumed after the delay to complete the required 70 minutes for the match to be official. In their previous game Friday, Huntingdon led 5-0 before lightning and darkness stopped play in the 71st minute.

William Carey was outshot 20-2 overall, with a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal. Owls goalkeeper Layla Escobedo made seven saves in the first half alone, finishing with eight for the match. Reagan Shinn recorded William Carey’s only shot on goal in the first half.

The Owls will return to action Tuesday at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, at 4 p.m., according to team officials.
