Ole Miss tops Louisville 41-38 on final-minute field goal

Ole Miss edged Louisville 41-38 Saturday in a season-opening matchup at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Lucas Carneiro’s 48-yard field goal as time expired secured the win for the Rebels, according to school officials.

The game marked the second meeting between the teams, with Ole Miss also winning the 2021 season opener at a neutral site in Atlanta. The attendance was reported at 57,390 fans.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns, his third career game with three passing scores. His performance placed him seventh in school history for passing yards in a game. Chambliss has now thrown and rushed for a touchdown in the same game six times in his career.

Deuce Alexander recorded his first 100-yard receiving game, catching 62-yard touchdowns in the third quarter. His 159 yards marked a personal best. Caleb Odom also had a career-high 66 receiving yards and one touchdown on three catches.

Ole Miss’s defense featured standout performances from Suntarine Perkins, who tied for fifth in school history with 19 career sacks, and Kam Franklin, who recorded two tackles for loss. Freshman Luke Ferrelli registered a sack in his debut late in the game.

Special teams played a crucial role, with Carneiro drilling the game-winning field goal. Kicker Carneiro now has 160 points in his career, ranking 14th in school history. Punter Oscar Bird averaged 43.3 yards on three punts, including a long of 49 yards.
