Former Ole Miss Receiver Shay Hodge Joins Morton Football Staff as Wide Receivers Coach
ELLISVILLE, Miss. — Shay Hodge, a former Ole Miss and NFL wide receiver, has joined Morton High School’s football staff as its wide receivers coach, according to a school spokesperson.
Hodge, one of Mississippi’s top two-sport high school athletes, previously spent four seasons at Jackson Academy, serving as offensive coordinator in 2025 and as the team’s wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator for the previous three years. Last season, the Raiders went 11-1 and won their first state championship in 14 years, averaging 41 points and nearly 400 yards of offense per game under Hodge’s guidance. The team also set school records for points scored and passing yards in a season.
Before Jackson Academy, Hodge led D1 Training Jackson’s football program for two years. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Morton High School, in 2014 as the wide receivers coach. He also served as offensive coordinator at Provine High School for a season and was head coach at Hillcrest Christian School in 2019. A Scott County Sports Hall of Fame inductee, Hodge starred at Morton before playing college football at Ole Miss, where he became the program’s first 1,000-yard receiver in 2009 and led the SEC in receiving yards that year. He finished his college career with 173 catches for 2,646 yards and 22 touchdowns, including an 86-yard touchdown in the 2008 upset of No. 4 Florida and Tim Tebow’s national championship-winning team.
Undrafted out of Ole Miss, Hodge played professionally in the NFL with Washington and Cincinnati, and later in the Arena Football League and Canadian Football League. He has built a reputation as a player development expert through Hodge Performance, his wide-receiver and skill-position training company. His athletes include five-star recruits and top-ranked players nationally. His program has produced 10 five-star prospects, 34 All-Americans, and 35 Dandy Dozen honorees, along with multiple Gatorade Players of the Year and athletes ranked No. 1 at their position nationally. His teams have claimed a state championship, four 7-on-7 championships, and finished as national runner-up at OT7.
Hodge’s hiring adds a notable name to Morton’s coaching staff, emphasizing his continued influence on Mississippi football and player development.
