Southern Miss Men’s Golf Finishes Eighth at Mossy Oak Collegiate

West Point, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi men’s golf team finished eighth at the Mossy Oak Collegiate, hosted by Mississippi State at Mossy Oak Golf Club. The Golden Eagles scored 881 strokes over 54 holes, securing a top 10 position just ahead of the upcoming Sun Belt Championship.

Jake Moffitt led the team with a tie for seventh place after shooting a 3-under 69 in the final round. The junior from Mississippi made four birdies in seven holes during the back nine. Moffitt finished the event with 13 birdies over three rounds, tying for ninth overall.

Southern Miss improved its standing by six places to finish eighth, one stroke ahead of Coastal Carolina and three behind Troy. The team shot an even-par score in the final round, ending the tournament on a high note ahead of the conference championship scheduled for April 27-30 at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi.

Benjamin Fernandez, a junior, shot even-par in the final round after falling two strokes over par in the front nine. He finished tied for 33rd and is tied for fourth on par fives, going six under with an average of 4.50 strokes per hole on those holes. Walker Wise improved 13 spots to finish 45th after carding a 2-over 74. Supakorn Amornchaichan also moved up 12 spots into 77th with a 73 in the final round, while Matthew Javier shot a 7-over 79 to finish 98th overall.
