Southern Miss Men’s Golf Ties for Second at Sun Belt Championship as Play Suspended
Madison, Miss. — Southern Miss men’s golf is tied for second place at the Sun Belt Championship after scoring 7-under on the third day of the event, with play suspended due to darkness following a weather delay, according to the university.
Benjamin Fernandez led the Golden Eagles with a 5-under 67 in round three, moving into a tie for third overall. Fernandez recorded six birdies and is tied for second in birdies with 14. Jake Moffitt was set to complete his final nine holes at 7 a.m. today. He was even par through nine holes and is tied for 10th overall.
Supakorn Amornchaichan and Walker Wise both finished the round in red figures, each shooting 1-under 71. Wise scored an eagle on hole seven, a 556-yard par-5, and recorded 12 pars. Amornchaichan recorded four birdies and 11 pars, with two birdies on par-4s and two on par-5s. Southern Miss sits at 7-under par overall, just three strokes behind leader Coastal Carolina.
The final round of stroke play is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. today, with Moffitt expected to finish his remaining nine holes before the start. The top four teams will advance to match play, which begins after the completion of stroke play. If the third round isn’t completed by 10 a.m., the semifinals will be canceled, and the top two teams will move directly to the finals.
