Ole Miss defeats Southern Miss 10-3 at Trustmark Park

PEARL, Miss. — Tristan Bissetta hit a home run and drove in three runs as No. 25 Ole Miss defeated No. 22 Southern Miss 10-3 Tuesday night at Trustmark Park. The Golden Eagles suffered their third consecutive loss, dropping to 25-12 overall, while the Rebels improved to 27-11.

Ole Miss scored early and often, taking a five-run lead in the third inning. Bissetta and Will Furniss each delivered run-scoring singles, and pinch hitter Cannon Goldin added a two-run single to center. Dom Decker capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field. Bissetta then hit a deep home run in the fifth to give the Rebels a 6-1 lead, his 16th of the season.

Matthew Russo homered for Southern Miss in the sixth, his sixth of the year, but Ole Miss responded with four unearned runs in the bottom of the inning. Errors by the Golden Eagles contributed to the rally, allowing the Rebels to extend their lead to 10-1. Furniss cleared the bases with a three-run double during that frame.

Southern Miss scored twice in the seventh, with runs driven in by Joey Urban and Kyle Morrison, but the rally fell short. Landon Koenig earned the win for Ole Miss, improving to 2-0 after tossing two scoreless innings. Bruce Littleton, making his first start for Southern Miss, took the loss, falling to 1-1 after allowing three runs in two-plus innings.

The Golden Eagles will return home to host Texas State in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series starting Friday at Pete Taylor Park. The series continues Saturday and concludes Sunday.
