Ole Miss Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Georgia in Comeback and Marathon
Ole Miss baseball completed a split of Saturday’s doubleheader against Georgia at Swayze Field. The Rebels won the first game 10-8 after an eight-run rally, but fell 9-7 in 14 innings in the second game.
In game one, Ole Miss (31-13, 11-9 SEC) mounted its largest comeback since April 24, 2021, against LSU. The Rebels scored all 10 runs via home runs, including two from Dom Decker and one each from Austin Fawley, Will Furniss, and Hayden Federico. Decker’s second homer of the game was the game-winner and marked his second multi-homer game this season.
After allowing eight runs by the fourth inning, Ole Miss pitchers Landon Waters and Landon Koenig shut down Georgia’s offense. Koenig earned the win, improving to 3-0. Fawley’s second grand slam of the season cut Georgia’s lead in half in the fourth inning. The Rebels then responded with back-to-back home runs from Furniss and Federico, tying the game at 8.
Decker’s game-winning homer in the eighth gave Ole Miss a 10-8 lead. Freshman Walker Hooks closed out the game, earning his fifth save after Federico made a diving catch in left field to end the game.
The second game proved to be a grueling marathon, lasting 14 innings. Furniss and Randle each had three hits and combined for three home runs. Furniss hit his second home run of the day in the ninth inning to tie the game at seven, sending it into extra innings. Georgia’s Tre Phelps hit a home run in the 14th to break a tie and secure the win for the Bulldogs.
The series will conclude Sunday with a rubber match scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT. Ole Miss will look to split the series in the final game.
