Ole Miss Baseball eliminated in SEC Tournament first round by Missouri
HOOVER, Ala. — No. 17 Ole Miss Baseball was knocked out of the SEC Tournament after a 10-8 loss to Missouri on Tuesday morning. The game was played at Hoover Met and featured a high-scoring, home-run-filled contest, with six total homers and 18 runs scored.
The Rebels, holding a 36-21 record, battled back from an early deficit but ultimately fell to the Tigers, who improved to 24-30. The game was notable for being the first in college baseball history to feature the Automatic Ball-Strike System, with Ole Miss challenging a call first and Missouri winning the challenge, according to the schools.
Ole Miss’s Hayden Federico went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Dom Decker and Austin Fawley also homered for the Rebels. Decker’s leadoff home run in the first inning and Federico’s two-run shot in the seventh kept Ole Miss competitive. Missouri responded with a grand slam by Kaden Peer in the fifth and a solo shot by Jace Woita in the sixth.
In a back-and-forth game, the Rebels tied the score at 8-8 in the seventh inning after Federico’s two-run homer. Missouri scored twice in the eighth to take the lead for good. Ole Miss had just one baserunner in the final two innings.
The Rebels now await their NCAA Tournament fate, with their destination to be announced Monday. The team had previously faced SEC opponents such as LSU, Tennessee, and Georgia in regular-season play, finishing with a strong record heading into postseason.
