Mississippi College Women’s Tennis Advances to NCAA Division II Elite Eight

Surprise, Arizona — The top-ranked Mississippi College women’s tennis team opened the NCAA Division II national championships with a 4-0 victory over No. 16 seed Adelphi University on Tuesday morning at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.

The win improves Mississippi College’s record to 26-1 and marks the program’s first appearance in the Elite Eight. The Choctaws will face Columbus State University in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 6 p.m. CDT (4 p.m. Mountain Time).

Mississippi College secured the doubles point with decisive wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Anna Hudson and Rocio Martinez defeated Adelphi’s Sara Lindeman and partner 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, while Rune Van Wyk and Katharina Weber won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

The Choctaws carried the momentum into singles play, winning three matches in straight sets. Van Wyk was first off the court, defeating Sara Lindeman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Hudson followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Oline Solevåg Halvorsen at No. 4. Weber sealed the win for Mississippi College with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Roisin Boyd at No. 3 singles.

The remaining singles matches were unfinished. The team’s victory sends Mississippi College into the quarterfinals, where they have a chance to reach the semifinals for the first time in school history.
