Mississippi State Stages Late Rally to Win Series Over LSU
Mississippi State rallied from a five-run deficit to beat LSU 9-8 Saturday night at Dudy Noble Field, in front of a crowd of 15,289. The attendance marked the third-largest on-campus crowd in NCAA baseball history, according to school officials.
Trailing 7-2 in the fifth inning, the Bulldogs mounted their comeback with a five-run seventh. Jacob Parker delivered a game-changing grand slam with the bases loaded, tying the game at 7. It was his eighth home run of the season and a key moment in the game, according to Mississippi State.
Mississippi State (33-10, 12-8 SEC) initially fell behind early, with LSU (24-20, 6-14 SEC) scoring three runs in the first and adding four more in the fifth. Omar Serna Jr. contributed a two-run double and a solo homer for LSU, while Cade Arrambide and Edward Yamin IV also drove in runs for the Tigers.
The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the inning, with Ace Reese hitting his 14th home run of the season. They added two insurance runs in the eighth, highlighted by an RBI single from Noah Sullivan and an LSU error that allowed another run to score.
LSU scored a solo homer in the ninth from Serna Jr., but Maddox Webb closed out the game for Mississippi State with his third save. Jack Bauer earned the win in relief, striking out eight batters in 3 2/3 innings.
Mississippi State will try for a sweep Sunday at 1 p.m. on SEC Network+. The Bulldogs will start pitcher Charlie Foster, while LSU has yet to announce their rotation, according to school officials.
