Mississippi Christian Volleyball Loses Two Matches at Dallas Classic

Mississippi Christian University’s volleyball team lost two matches Saturday at the Dallas Classic, falling to No. 7 Nebraska Kearney and Dallas Baptist University at the Burg Center.

The Choctaws were swept by Nebraska Kearney in straight sets, 25-4, 25-16, 25-15. They struggled offensively early, with the Lopers controlling play through strong attacks and blocking. Despite efforts from Mary Grace Foster, Caroline Downey and Cydney Mitchell to generate offense, the first set was dominated by Nebraska Kearney.

In the second set, Mississippi Christian showed improvement, with contributions from Emma Levingston, Audrianna Green, Rhaia Davey and Foster. Service aces from Meg Paparella and Ava Rothe kept the team competitive, but the Lopers pulled away late for a 25-16 win. The Choctaws opened the third set with a 2-0 lead, but Nebraska Kearney regained control and finished with a 25-15 victory.

Defensively, Samarin Kipple led the team with 15 digs and added two assists. Mamie Fromdahl tallied 10 assists, while Green contributed five kills and a block assist. Davey added three kills and two blocks in the loss.

Later, Mississippi Christian faced Dallas Baptist University and played a more competitive match. The Choctaws pushed the Patriots in the first set before falling 25-21. They built an early lead in the second set but ultimately dropped it 25-17. In the third, MC fought hard and won 27-25 to force a fourth set.

DBU responded in the final set, overcoming an early deficit and closing with a 25-20 victory. Davey led the team with 10 kills and four blocks, while Kipple had 20 digs. Fromdahl posted 31 assists and 13 digs, and Williams contributed 11 kills and four blocks for 13 points. The loss leaves Mississippi Christian with an 0-4 record for the season.

The team is scheduled to face Erskine on Friday, Sept. 4, at 1 p.m. CT at a neutral site in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
