Mississippi College volleyball beats AUM in three sets

Mississippi College swept Auburn Montgomery 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-20) Saturday at A.E. Wood Coliseum, improving its record in Gulf South Conference play, according to school officials.

The Choctaws hit .280 with 44 kills and 10 aces, while AUM managed 14 kills with a -.031 attack percentage. Mississippi College built early leads in each set, using strong service runs and offensive efficiency to control the match.

In the first set, MC took a 5-0 run after AUM tied at 5-5, highlighted by an ace from Caroline Downey and a kill from Meg Paparella. The Choctaws extended their lead to 14-6 behind five consecutive points served by Samarin Kipple, with kills from Anna Grace Chason, Cydney Mitchell, and Paparella. They finished the set with a 6-0 run, ending with a Mitchell service ace for a 25-9 victory.

The second set saw Mississippi College pull away early, opening with a 6-0 run fueled by Mamie Fromdahl’s five straight service points. The Choctaws led 17-5 after late kills from Williams and Paparella. A late AUM rally cut the gap to 17-9, but MC responded with a kill from Chason and closed the set with a service error by the Warhawks, winning 25-9.

In the third set, AUM attempted a comeback, cutting the deficit to 22-16. However, Chason closed the set with a kill from Kipple, giving Mississippi College a 25-20 win. Cydney Mitchell led the team with 10 kills, a .444 attack percentage, and three service aces. Paparella added 10 kills on a .643 hitting percentage, and Reese Regner recorded 18 assists and 14 digs.

The Choctaws will next face Union in Jackson, Tennessee, on Tuesday at 6 p.m., according to team officials.
