Mobile, Ala. — Mississippi State volleyball extended its winning streak to two matches with a straight-sets victory over South Alabama on Saturday at the Jaguar Classic. The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 this season with the 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 win over the Jaguars.
Mississippi State led throughout the match, only trailing once early in the first set due to a service error. After a bad set from South Alabama at 4-3, the Bulldogs took control and never looked back, winning the first set 25-19. They maintained momentum in the second, winning 25-15, and fought off a back-and-forth third set to claim the victory 25-20.
Lindsey Mangelson led the Bulldogs with 10 kills. Noella Obi added seven kills with a .385 hitting percentage, while Gha’Naye Whitfield-Moss contributed four kills at .429. Bernardita Aguilar also posted seven kills on 21 swings, and Olivia Stant added six kills. McKena Yates led all players with 13 digs, and Cayley Hanson dished out 28 assists as part of the team’s 31 total.
Obi was active defensively with six blocks assists, the most of any Mississippi State player in the match. The Bulldogs will look to extend their winning streak Sunday when they face Rice at 11 a.m. at the Jaguar Classic.
