Owls fall to Huntingdon in final non-league game, 12-6

Montgomery, Alabama — The William Carey University baseball team lost its final non-league game of the season to Huntingdon College 12-6. The Owls are 17-14 overall and lost both games against the Hawks this season.

Huntingdon took control early, leading 4-1 after two innings and maintaining its advantage throughout the game. The Hawks scored in each of the first two innings and added to their lead in subsequent innings.

The Owls’ offense started strong with a solo home run from designated hitter Baron Brack in the first inning. The blast was Brack’s seventh of the year and came during a stretch of four straight games with a home run, all on the road. Brack finished 2-for-5 at the plate.

Senior outfielder Zach Johnson continued his hot streak, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Bryson Barnes, making his second consecutive start at third base, went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. In the last two games, Barnes is 6-for-8 at the plate.

Griffin Fuller came off the bench to go 1-for-2 with a double. On the mound, pitcher JB Crumpton (0-1) took the loss after 2.2 innings, allowing five runs. Josh Mackey pitched well in relief, throwing scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth.

The Owls will next prepare for their upcoming schedule as the season progresses.
