Shackelford Scores First Goal to Lead Ole Miss Past South Alabama 1-0

OXFORD, Miss. — Audrey Shackelford scored her first goal as a member of Ole Miss soccer, leading the Rebels to a 1-0 victory over South Alabama Thursday night at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

The game-winner came in the 62nd minute when Keira Mitchell set up Shackelford for her first goal at Ole Miss. The Rebels improved to 6-1-0, recording their fifth shutout in seven matches. South Alabama, now 1-4-1, was held scoreless despite multiple attempts on goal.

Ole Miss goalkeeper Taylor Prigge made two saves in the match, earning her fifth win and her fourth shutout of the season. The Rebels dominated the first half, outshooting the Jaguars 10-0 and earning nine corner kicks. Ava Ghoreishi tested South Alabama’s goalkeeper Sierra Giorgio twice in the opening 25 minutes.

South Alabama mounted a challenge in the second half, generating its first shot less than four minutes after halftime. Prigge denied Ava Matherne in the 54th minute and Zamiyah Hill in the 57th to keep the game scoreless. Shackelford’s goal ultimately sealed the victory for Ole Miss, which held 55% of possession and outshot the Jaguars 14-6 overall.

The Rebels will return to action Sunday against Belmont at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT, and the match will be streamed on SEC Network+.
