Ole Miss Soccer to Close Nonconference Schedule Against Belmont on Sunday
Ole Miss soccer will wrap up its nonconference schedule Sunday with a match against Belmont at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT, and the game will be streamed on SEC Network+.
The Rebels, now 6-1-0 after a 1-0 victory over South Alabama on Thursday, are seeking their sixth straight win. Ole Miss has recorded five shutouts this season and has scored 10 goals with contributions from eight different players.
In their recent win, Ole Miss controlled the match, outshooting South Alabama 14-6 and earning a season-high 12 corner kicks. Keira Mitchell assisted Audrey Shackelford on the only goal of the game, Shackelford’s first as a Rebel. Goalkeeper Taylor Prigge made two saves to earn her fifth victory and her fourth solo shutout of the season.
Belmont enters the game with a 1-2-3 record. The Bruins, who are unbeaten in their last two matches, drew 3-3 with Marshall and 1-1 with UT Martin. Their sole win came against Chattanooga, 2-1, on Aug. 20. Reagan Ross leads Belmont with three goals and one assist, accounting for half of the team’s goals this season. The Bruins have scored six goals and allowed 12 through six matches, with Greta Genie in goal recording 28 saves and one shutout.
Ole Miss is under first-year head coach Todd Shulenberger, who joined the program in December after 11 seasons at Washington State. The Cougars’ all-time winningest coach led WSU to five NCAA tournaments, including a College Cup appearance in 2019. Shulenberger has coached 43 all-conference players and 10 players drafted into professional leagues.
The Rebels are looking to extend their winning streak before opening SEC play next weekend. They will face Mississippi State on Tuesday night and then begin conference action against Alabama on Oct. 2.
