Millsaps Volleyball wins two matches at UMHB Tournament
The Millsaps College volleyball team concluded its weekend at the UMHB Tournament with two wins and two losses at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton, Texas, according to the school.
On Friday, the Majors opened with a 3-2 loss to Carroll University, then defeated Alverno College 3-1. They also beat Texas Lutheran University 3-0 on Saturday before falling to host Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-1.
In the match against Carroll, freshman Khloe Duncan led Millsaps with 15 kills and 16 points. Senior Sandy Bourgeois contributed 19 digs and two aces. Sophomore Atlee Gonzales added four service aces and 13 digs. The Majors forced a fifth set after a comeback in the first, but fell in the decisive game.
The team dominated Alverno in their second match, winning 3-1. Duncan posted 16 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, while sophomore Lily Luneau added eight kills and a .700 percentage. Millsaps controlled the match, with strong serving and multiple players contributing to the attack.
Millsaps also swept Texas Lutheran 3-0, with Duncan leading again with nine kills. The team had a strong defensive showing, limiting Texas Lutheran to a .000 hitting percentage in the second set and finishing with a 37-25 kill advantage overall. They fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor in four sets in their final match, despite a notable comeback in the third set.
