The Millsaps College volleyball team defeated U.S. Sports University in straight sets Friday night at the Hangar Dome, improving to 8-2 this season, according to school sources.
Junior Zoë LaCaze led the team with seven kills, six service aces, and three blocks. Freshman Khloe Duncan tallied 10 kills, three digs, and two blocks. Sophomore Lily Luneau contributed seven kills on 11 attacks, while senior Sandy Bourgeois recorded a team-high nine digs and three assists.
The Majors took control early in the opening set, building a 5-1 lead on kills from Duncan and LaCaze, along with two U.S. Sports University attack errors. Millsaps extended its lead to 20-6 with an ace from Abigail Drury, ultimately closing the set 25-11 on Duncan’s final kill.
In the second set, Millsaps seized an early 9-0 lead behind strong serving by Atlee Gonzales and multiple kills from Duncan, LaCaze, and Luneau. The team maintained its momentum, pushing the lead to 15-4 and later to 19-4. The set ended at 25-11 after a final kill from Madelynn Sasser.
The Majors opened the third set with four straight points, including a Bourgeois ace and a block by LaCaze and Duncan. They quickly extended the lead to 11-1 and later to 18-3. Millsaps finished strong, winning the set 25-10 after late U.S. Sports University points and kills from Luneau and Bohl.
