Trevecca Nazarene beats Mississippi College 6-2 in men’s soccer

Trevecca Nazarene handed Mississippi College a 6-2 loss Saturday at Trojan Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tennessee. The Trojans scored four goals in the first half and added two more in the second to improve their record to 5-0-2 overall and 1-0-2 in conference play, according to team stats.

The Choctaws led in shots, 25-17, and put 12 attempts on goal. Trevecca Nazarene recorded 10 saves. The match’s flow was set early, with the Trojans taking a 4-0 lead during the first half. Chris Douglas scored twice for Trevecca Nazarene, in the third and 13th minutes, assisted by Haden Brown and Hunter Walker, respectively. Jack Franklin and Zion Jones added goals before halftime for the Trojans, who led 4-1 at the break.

Mississippi College responded early in the second half. Harry McLean scored in the 70th minute, assisted by Benjamin Smith, to cut the deficit to 4-2. However, Trevecca Nazarene responded with goals from Daniel Shiel and Zion Jones in the 84th and 87th minutes, sealing the victory. The Choctaws attempted to rally with shots from Karim Gegg, Brody Tanner, and Hayden Thomas in the closing moments but were unable to close the gap.

Gegg led Mississippi College with six shots, including four on goal, and scored the team’s only goal. McLean and Pena each contributed offensively, with Pena totaling six shots. Patrick Vukoje and Benjamin Smith provided assists for the visitors.
