Millsaps Volleyball Opens 2026 Season With Win Over Belhaven
Millsaps College opened its 2026 volleyball season with a three-set victory over Belhaven University on Tuesday night inside Rugg Arena in Jackson, Mississippi, according to school officials.
Freshman outside hitter Khloe Duncan led Millsaps with a .500 hitting percentage, totaling eight kills on 14 attempts. Sophomore Madelynn Sasser topped the team with 13 kills, adding a block assist. Senior Sandy Bourgeois recorded 16 digs, three assists, and one service ace, while sophomore Rachel Zamjahn dished out 21 assists, along with eight digs and two kills.
The first set saw Millsaps build an early 6-3 lead with kills from LaCaze, Luneau, Duncan, and Boyle. Belhaven responded with two attack errors and an ace to tie it at 7-7. The teams exchanged points, and Millsaps eventually pulled ahead 15-14 after a Bourgeois ace. The set remained competitive, but Millsaps secured the win 25-23 with kills from LaCaze and Sasser, and an error by Belhaven.
In the second set, Belhaven took a 5-4 lead before Millsaps scored six consecutive points to take control. Led by Luneau’s kill and a service run from Gonzales, the Majors extended their lead to 10-5. Millsaps maintained its advantage, closing out the set 25-16 with late kills from Bohl, Duncan, Zamjahn, and Sasser, along with a Drury ace.
The third set saw Millsaps jump ahead early after Drury served six straight points, including four kills from Luneau and a block. Belhaven tied it at 9-9 and traded leads through the middle of the set. Millsaps responded with a rally, taking a 19-16 lead on a combination of kills, an ace from LaCaze, and errors by Belhaven. Sasser finished the set with a kill from Zamjahn, sealing the 25-20 victory for Millsaps.
The team will travel to Texas to face Carroll University and Alverno College at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Tournament, beginning at 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively. Millsaps officials noted that updates can be found on their social media channels and website.
