Owls Golf Teams Record Strong Performances at Recent Tournaments
The William Carey University women’s golf team finished second at the Preview at Timbergate on April 11-12, while the men’s team placed fourth at the Cochran Collegiate at Colonial Country Club on April 13-14, according to school officials.
The women’s team finished just 10 shots behind the first-place team, Heidelberg University, at the Timberlake Country Club course. They trailed by only two strokes after the first day of play. Junior Ashley Estabrook led the Owls with rounds of 72 and 90 for a total of 162, earning third place overall — one stroke behind the runner-up. Senior Sara Grace Ramey was close behind with scores of 77 and 86, finishing tied for fourth place. Freshmen Addi Campbell and Isabel Velasquez also finished in the top 10, placing eighth and ninth, respectively. Lyndsey Reimsnyder finished 11th overall with scores of 88 and 93.
The men’s team competed at Rhodes College’s Cochran Collegiate at Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tennessee. The Owls finished with a team score of 920, behind NCAA Division III No. 9-ranked Illinois Wesleyan, which posted an 886. They also finished ahead of No. 41-ranked Rhodes (915) and Centre College (918). The team placed ahead of Lyon College, ranked No. 47 in NCAA Division III, which finished ninth among the 10 teams.
Senior Cameron James, the lone returning player from the Owls’ back-to-back SLIAC championship and NCAA III playoff squads, recorded his best performance of the season, tying for fifth place in a field of 61 players. His rounds included 73, 74, and 78 for a total of 225. Fellow sophomore Alexandre Thery also finished in the top 10, tying for seventh with rounds of 75, 76, and 76. Junior Bryce Denley made the biggest jump in the final round, moving up 16 places to finish in a tie for 18th with scores of 78, 81, and 74. Junior Nicklaus Ledbetter and Collin Jones rounded out the lineup, finishing 30th and 50th with totals of 239 and 249, respectively.
