Ole Miss Softball’s Madi George Named NFCA Top-25 Finalist for Freshman of the Year
Ole Miss softball freshman Madi George has been named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 Finalist for the National Freshman of the Year, the organization announced Thursday. George joins Miali Guachino (2025) and Hailey Lunderman (2016) as the third Rebel in program history to earn this recognition.
The Leander, Texas native has had an outstanding season, setting school records with 20 home runs and 125 total bases. She is batting .394 with seven doubles, 50 RBIs, and 25 walks. George also boasts a team-high .491 on-base percentage and an impressive slugging percentage of .880.
Recently, George has been on a hot streak, hitting 10 home runs in her last nine games and four in her last two, including two in a win over Southern Miss on Tuesday. She is one of only two freshmen nationally with 20 home runs, alongside Oklahoma’s Kendall Wells, and is among 16 players nationwide with 20 blasts this season.
The Rebels are one of six programs to have a freshman finalist in the NFCA Top 25 in each of the past two seasons, joining Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, UCLA, and Virginia Tech. The list will be cut to 10 on May 7, with three finalists announced May 20 and the winner revealed May 26.
Ole Miss is preparing for a three-game series at Auburn this weekend, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. CT, with the first game streamed on SEC Network Plus.
