Ole Miss Freshman Madi George Named SEC Softball Freshman of the Week
Ole Miss softball freshman Madi George was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It marks her first SEC weekly honor and the first for a Rebel since teammate Persy Llamas received the award last season, according to Ole Miss athletics.
George also swept national awards, earning D1Softball National Freshman of the Week, Softball America National Freshman Star of the Week, and Softball on SI’s National Freshman of the Week. She hit .636 (7-for-11) during the week, with three home runs, 10 RBIs, a double, and three walks.
The Leander, Texas native had a multi-home run game against Southern Miss and drove in six runs in the series against Auburn, including a 3-for-3 performance with five RBIs in game two. She has set program single-season records for home runs (21), RBIs (56), and total bases (132).
George is batting .400 overall this season, with 21 home runs, seven doubles, 56 RBIs, and 27 walks. She boasts a team-high .497 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .880. In April alone, she has hit .442 with 11 home runs and 25 RBIs.
Her performance in conference play remains strong, with a .328 batting average, seven home runs, and 16 RBIs over 21 games. Ole Miss will host Mississippi State in a three-game series this weekend to conclude the regular season, beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. CT, streaming on SEC Network Plus.
