Northwest Mississippi Baseball Drops Two to No. 1 Pearl River
Senatobia, Miss. — The 24th-ranked Northwest Mississippi Community College baseball team lost both games in a doubleheader against top-ranked Pearl River Community College at Jim Miles Field on Sophomore Day.
In the first game, Pearl River defeated Northwest 21-11. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead but struggled with defensive errors and pitching issues in the later innings, allowing the Wildcats to score multiple runs. Despite a two-run home run from John Whit Snopek in the third inning and a late rally in the seventh, Pearl River’s offense proved too potent. The Wildcats’ pitcher Tyce Powers went five innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits, with five strikeouts.
The second game was closer, with Northwest losing 7-4. The Wildcats took an early lead on a solo home run by Mason McCoy in the second inning. Pearl River responded with a two-run homer in the third and took the lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Northwest forced extra innings after a comeback in the eighth, highlighted by three runs scored on errors. Connor Young pitched five-plus innings for the Wildcats, allowing four runs. McCoy was charged with the loss after pitching 2.2 innings and permitting three runs.
Northwest, now tied for fourth in the MACCC standings, will travel to Jones College on Wednesday for a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for noon, with the second to follow 30 minutes after.
