Ole Miss Freshman Madi George Wins Three National Weekly Softball Honors

Ole Miss softball freshman Madi George has earned three national weekly honors, becoming the first Rebel to sweep such awards. She was named the D1Softball National Freshman of the Week, Softball America’s National Freshman Star of the Week, and Softball on SI’s National Freshman of the Week, according to a release from the university.

George, a Leander, Texas native, hit .636 (7-for-11) during a recent week, with three home runs, 10 RBIs, a double, and three walks. She had a multi-home run game in a victory over Southern Miss and drove in six runs in a series against Auburn, including a 3-for-3 effort with five RBIs in one game.

Her season totals include 21 home runs, 56 RBIs, 27 walks, and a batting average of .400. She also holds a team-high slugging percentage of .880 and an on-base percentage of .497. George has set school records for home runs, RBIs, and total bases (132).

In April alone, she hit .442 with 11 home runs and 25 RBIs, ranking fourth in the SEC in home runs and tied for 13th nationally. She is second among all freshmen nationally in home runs, trailing only Oklahoma’s Kendall Wells.

The Rebels will host Mississippi State for a three-game series starting Thursday, with the opener at 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network Plus. Ole Miss continues to compete for postseason positioning as the regular season winds down.
